The Wait

To update you, I will actually receive my first chemo treatment Thursday evening. Earlier that day I will also have a PET scan, which will show whether the spots on my liver and lungs are malignant. So right now, we are in the so-called Waiting Room.

Our home-away-from-home is now an RV park off of I-90. My in-laws brought it over last weekend. It is very comfortable and convenient to Bellevue. (Does anyone know of a good massage therapist in the South Bellevue/Factoria area?)

My sisters are also in town to help me pass the time. Yesterday we went to Shoe Pavilion and I bought two pairs of shoes and one pair of boots at a going-out-of-business sale.

Your support means so much to us. I treasure every note of encouragement.

The waiting is a major nail-biter for me (I'm checking your blog for updates way too often), so I figure multiply my anxiety by like, oh, a zillion, and I come somewhere close to guessing what you're feeling. I hope you have some answers (encouraging ones) soon...and that you get to come home for the weekend. I spent just about every Labor Day weekend of my childhood at an RV park in Bellevue--probably the same one.

We need to get in touch with your mom and see if Michael wants to come over for an afternoon of video games or something. Ethan would love it. (We don't have Grand Theft Auto IV, if that helps....)

Miss you! Take care!

We're carving pumkins with Oliver. We loved having your visit today and hope that you will come again soon. Oliver wants to see Quique, Marissa, and Bela soon! I pray that you and Vince get some sleep and rest tonight. Blanca and I will be with you both tomorrow and together we will get through the day. PLUS you have all these wonderful friends and family who are all keeping you in their hearts and prayers. I love you kind sister.

Hey, will you still be in Seattle this weekend? I'm at Rosario with the NAD Academic VPs' retreat; coming to Seattle for a conference Saturday night through Tuesday. Let me know if you want more guests.

Continuing to pray for you...

Hi Rosa,

Thank you so much for creating a blog and for your up-to-date posts.

Shoe shopping is one form of therapy that I wholeheartedly endorse. It sounds like you got some great deals if they were going out of business.

You have some awesome sisters by your side as you navigate from retail therapy to chemo therapy.

I have often admired your positive, low-key nature. That is going to work to your benefit as you engage in this battle.

My aunt was 42 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her doctor told her that because she had a calm nature and a positive attitude, that is what set her apart from the rest of his patients. She also had an aggressive form of breast cancer with some metastases which gave her a significantly lower chance of survival than most. After she underwent a double mastectomy and three rounds of chemotherapy, she went back to her job as a television talk show host in Florida and resumed teaching five aerobics classes a week. I am happy to report that she is still here 20 years later in full remission and now teaches yoga instead of aerobics.

We (have) and will continue to hold you up in prayer for God to comfort and heal you. I pray that that all will go well for you tomorrow.

Hi Rosa,
Just agreeing with you that shoes and boots at a bargain are terrific for the soul!
I have been and will continue to pray for you daily.
Fondly,
Debbie

Aunt Rosie,

Linda and Lina want you to visit NYC so they can shoe shop with you. Wall Street might be down, but shopping for shoes and 'botas' is as popular as ever because you have to look good in order to feel good(I think someone on Saturday Night Live said that in the 1980s).

We miss you and love you so much. You are a truly courageous.

With all of our love,

Jaime, Linda, and Lina

Well it is a sure sign of health and clarity of mind that you understand that shoe shopping is indeed good medicine. I believe it is also Biblical.

What a soldier you are. I know you did not hope to earn your badge of courage this way and we long to wish it away for you. So often I carry you in my heart and prayers. Today I am praying for your peace and courage. "The Lord is Rosa's shepherd, she shall not want...."

When we come to know that the promises are for us, we experience God in ways never before known.

Wishing you a Sabbath's rest from the burden you carry, and a sense of the many who are running along beside you--cheering you on.

Blessings and courage.
